Mwananchi Communications Limited publishers of leading Tanzania newspapers, Mwananchi, Mwananchi Jumapili, Mwanaspoti. The Citizen and Sunday Citizen is looking for highly motivated and experienced individuals to fill the position of:
Job Title: Sub Editor – The Citizen – (2 posts)
Main Responsibilities
•    Checks and corrects editorial copy allocated by the Chief Sub-Editor for facts. Accuracy, taste, house-style, language use, clarity, details, objectivity, and spellings.
•    Subs copy to fit allocated space without distorting facts or dispensing with the salient points.
•    Re-writes the appropriate headline for the copy, ensuring it reflects the overriding message of the story.
•    Rewrites the copy as necessary for simplicity, clarity and style.

•    Edits the pictures selected by the Chief Sub-Editor within set deadlines.
•    Makes up the editorial pages as directed by the Chief Sub-Editor.
•    Checks all headlines, captions, pictures, copy text and page logos and all other page element to sign the pages within set deadlines.

Academic Qualifications
•    Basic University Degree in Arts or related disciplines.
•    1-4 years of experience in journalism part of which as a sub editor will be added advantage.
•    Mastery of English and Swahili grammar.

Job Title: Reporter - the Citizen (2 posts)
Main Responsibilities
•    Develops reports and writes news for the title he/she is assigned to in finished form, so that no major rewrite news or features on own initiative, choice and judgment or at the direction of either the news editor or section editor.
•    The material so written must reflect a thorough understanding of the MCL`s style of journalism as defined in the editorial policy guidelines and objectives, the house style and the journalistic code of ethical journalism.
•    Researches and provides background information to make copy complete.
•    Briefs News Editor on stories gathered and writes the selected ones within set deadlines.
•    Follows news leads and leads and maintains close contacts with news sources.
•    Continually builds his/her contacts list and demonstrates its value with consistent exclusive reports or information.
•    Responds promptly to news breaks.
•    Is primarily but not solely responsible for the correctness of facts, content and style of his/her covers.
•    Performs both independently and under supervision in accordance with general principles and directives.

Qualifications and Experience
Academic: Basic University Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication.
Experience: 1-3 years Journalistic working experience, will be an added advantage.
